Imagine a World Without Weight Stigma: OAC Hosts 20th Anniversary Creative Contest

How do you imagine a world without weight stigma? What does it look like? What does it feel like?

As the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC, Producer of the Stop Weight Bias Campaign) celebrates its 20th Anniversary in 2025, we’re calling on advocates and creatives to help us envision a future free from weight stigma through the “Imagine a World Without Weight Stigma” Creative Contest.

For two decades, OAC has been at the forefront of raising awareness about obesity, advocating for access to care and fighting back against harmful stereotypes. Now, we’re turning to the power of creativity to amplify the message that weight stigma has no place in our society—from healthcare and education to the media, workplaces, and even in our families/personal networks.

“We launched this Creative Contest to provide individuals with an opportunity to express themselves and contribute to OAC’s mission through their work,” said Joe Nadglowski, OAC President and CEO. “We want to hear from diverse voices and help bring this important message to life as we celebrate our 20th year of fighting for a better future for people affected by obesity.”

Whether you’re a writer, artist or digital creator, we want to hear from you! Entries will be accepted in various formats— visual art, essays, poetry and prose—through May 27, 2025.

Selected entries will be showcased at the 2025 Your Weight Matters National Convention (YWM2025) in Washington, DC (July 24-26), with more opportunities for your work to be featured across OAC’s 20th Anniversary celebrations, social campaigns and even merchandise.

Prizes:

  • 1st Place: $500 Grand Prize, trip to YWM2025 (airfare, hotel, registration) and year-round recognition
  • 2nd & 3rd Place: Trip to YWM2025 (airfare, hotel, registration) and year-round recognition
